Arkansas Entrepreneur Day

Governor Mike Huckabee has proclaimed January 31st as "Arkansas Entrepreneur Day" and the UALR Arkansas Small Business Development Center is celebrating by simultaneously offering our popular "Starting a Business in Arkansas" seminar in 15 cities throughout the state.

Arkansas New Hire Registry

All Arkansas employers, regardless of size, are required to report all newly hired workers to the Arkansas New Hire Registry within 20 days of their hire date.

DECA, An Association of Marketing Students

DECA, a national association of marketing education students, provides teachers and members with educational and leadership development activities to merge with the education classroom instructional program.

Drug Free Workplace

Approximetely 71% of drug users in the United States are employed, costing American businesses billions in dollars annually in lost productivity and increased health care costs. In response, many employers have established workplace substance abuse programs to ensure that their workforces are productive, their workplaces safe, and the success of their businesses is not hindered by substance abuse.

Internet Incubator

In 1999, the Arkansas SBDC participated in a one-year pilot project to assist 12 Arkansas small businesses in establishing an Internet business presence. The selected business received technical assistance in registering a domain name, creating a web site, and marketing their products globally. Funding for the pilot Internet Incubator project was provided by Southwestern Bell Telephone.

Project STRIVE

The Arkansas STRIVE program places middle, junior high, and senior high school science, math, and computer teachers into summer research positions in industries, businesses, government agencies, universities, research facilities, and nonprofit organizations. Mr. Charles Moore, a mathematics teacher at Horace Mann Middle School in Little Rock, is currently performing research at the Arkansas SBDC during the 2001 STRIVE program.
