LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present live webinars June 27 and 29 aimed at Arkansas military veterans who are interested in owning a business.
The free webinars are based on two of ASBTDC's most popular traditional seminars. "Starting a Business in Arkansas" covers all the basics for start-up businesses, including keys to success and common pitfalls to avoid. "Writing a Business Plan" can help entrepreneurial-minded veterans define their business concept and communicate their strategies and challenges. On June 27, the "Starting a Business in Arkansas" webinar will be at 2 p.m. CDT, followed by "Writing a Business Plan" at 3:15. On June 29, "Starting" will begin at 6 p.m. CDT, and "Business Plan" will be at 7:15.
Webinars are interactive Internet-based seminars. Participants sit at their own computers to view and listen to a live presentation and can submit questions to the instructor and respond to poll questions. Vets can register for the free webinars on ArkansasVeteran.com, a Web portal launched by ASBTDC in January.
Army veteran Herb Lawrence will lead the webinars. Lawrence is center director of the ASBTDC at Arkansas State University, a post he has held since 1996. He spent seven years on active duty in the U.S. Army Signal Corp and served 13 years with the Arkansas National Guard. Lawrence, a Certified Business Consultant®, helped develop ASBTDC's business mobilization planning guide, Ready to Go.
"Through webinars, we can assist more veterans with their businesses than we could reach through traditional classroom training. We especially hope our Arkansas military men and women who are interested in owning a business but are currently serving abroad will find the webinars helpful," said Janet Roderick, ASBTDC state director.
ArkansasVeteran.com brings together in one place veterans-related resources, news, information and contacts for active-duty, Reserve, National Guard and retired Arkansas veterans and their families. The project is funded by a grant through the U.S. Small Business Administration's Veterans Assistance and Services Program.
The ASBTDC assists new, existing and innovation-based small businesses. Through a statewide network of seven offices, ASBTDC provides free consulting and market research services plus affordable training to the business community. The ASBTDC is a partnership of the SBA and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock College of Business. Learn more at asbtdc.ualr.edu.
