LITTLE ROCK - Laura Miller of Jonesboro is the Arkansas Small Business Development Center's 2008 State Star, Janet M. Roderick, ASBDC state director, has announced. Miller was honored Sept. 5 at the National Association of Small Business Development Centers Annual Conference in Chicago.
"I am pleased to recognize Laura for extraordinary contributions to the work of the Arkansas State University Small Business Development Center and small business in our state," said Roderick.
Miller, an eight-year veteran of the ASU Small Business Development Center, was chosen as State Star for being an exemplary performer, making a significant contribution to the Arkansas SBDC program and showing a strong commitment to small business in Arkansas, Roderick said. Miller serves as a business consultant, working directly with small business clients in 15 counties in northeast Arkansas.
"I am excited and very honored to be chosen," she said.
Whether she is packaging loan proposals, reviewing business plans, conducting market research or helping clients optimize Web sites, Miller strives to help her clients reach their goals and fulfill dreams.
"It is rewarding to be able to provide resources to clients so they can make decisions that are best for their business," she said.
America's Small Business Development Center Network is a partnership uniting private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations. It is the Small Business Administration's largest partnership program, providing management and technical assistance to help Americans start, run and grow their own businesses. With about 1,000 centers across the nation, America's SBDC network provided business consulting to approximately 200,000 clients, training for more than 400,000 attendees, and other forms of management and technical assistance to approximately 600,000 small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs last year.
The Arkansas Small Business Development Center provides assistance to entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout Arkansas via a statewide network of seven offices. The lead center is at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
