Tech Track, Tracking Tomorrow's Technologies Today TRANSPORTATION CHANGES SBIR DATESby Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) has changed the release and closing dates for its 2005 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program solicitation. The DoT now expects to release the announcement on February 28. The closing date has been changed to May 16. Please monitor www.volpe.dot.gov/sbir/ for the agency's Internet-only edition of this small business research program announcement. Research topic titles are currently available; they will be described in more detail in the full solicitation. TRADEMARK APPLICATION FILES AVAILABLE ONLINE by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is making full files for trademark applications — including decisions made by examining attorneys — available online. The Trademark Document Retrieval (TDR) system makes available, as downloadable and printable PDF files, over eight million document pages. This represents the approximately 400,000 trademark files created since USPTO moved to the paper-free First Action System for Trademarks (FAST). The remaining 1.2 million pre-FAST trademark registrations will be converted and moved to TDR over the next five years. USPTO's Jon Dudas explains, "The TDR system improves our ability to provide timely and useful information to business owners as they develop their marks and prepare to file trademark applications.” Visit http://portal.uspto.gov/external/portal/tow to view trademark documents. AGENCIES CHANGE SBIR WEB SITE ADDRESSES by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager Arkansas entrepreneurs who have research capabilities and want to take advantage of funding opportunities through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs will want to update their bookmark links to two participating agency web site addresses. The National Science Foundation's new SBIR address is www.nsf.gov/eng/sbir. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's new SBIR web address is www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/sbir/sbir.html. Links to all of the agencies are available at the Arkansas SBDC's web site, www.asbdc.ualr.edu/technology. The eleven federal agencies that participate in the SBIR and STTR programs release their solicitations containing descriptions of their research interests and proposal instructions via their Internet sites. You are receiving this newsletter because you requested that your email address be added to the Arkansas SBDC mailing list. Biz Bytes and Tech Track are published every two weeks. To prevent accidental spam filtering, AOL users and other subscribers should add tmlee1@ualr.edu to their address books.
