DOT Seeks Small Business Research Proposals

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is now seeking Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposals in their FY10.1 solicitation. The DOT seeks innovative research proposals from research-capable small businesses that address high priority requirements of the DOT.

The full solicitation can be found at http://www.volpe.dot.gov/sbir/sol10/index.html. Proposals may only be submitted online, as outlined in the Proposal Submission Requirements section of the solicitation. All DOT proposals must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on Nov. 16, 2009.

Research topics for the FY10.1 DOT SBIR solicitation include the following:
- Federal Aviation Administration - (1 subtopic)
- Federal Highway Administration - (3 subtopics)
- Federal Railroad Administration - (6 subtopics)
- Federal Transit Administration - (3 subtopics)
- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - (2 subtopics)
- Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration - (1 subtopic)

Applicants have the opportunity to submit technical questions pertaining to the FY10.1 DOT SBIR solicitation research topics to the DOT SBIR Program Office by email to Linda.Duck@dot.gov. Technical questions submitted after Oct. 22, 2009, may not be answered before the solicitation closing date.

DOT SBIR Phase I awards may be up to $100,000, and the period of performance is generally six months. The DOT expects to fund 16 SBIR Phase I awards. The DOT will only accept Phase II proposals from firms which have previously received a DOT Phase I award; Phase II awards generally have a period of performance of two years with a dollar value up to $750,000.
