Google Offers Free Merchant Service For 2007
by Timothy Lee, Associate Extension Specialist, UALR Lead Center

Google has announced that they will process merchant transactions through their Google Checkout system for free until the end of 2007. Google Checkout™ is a checkout process that integrates with websites, enabling customers to buy quickly and securely, using a single username and password. And once they do, Checkout charges their credit cards, processes customer orders, and receives payment in a designated bank account.

Google Checkout includes advanced features, such as, email billing and coupon creation. Merchants may bill customers for purchases by sending them a Google Checkout invoice over email. The email will contain a link that customers can click on to pay you via Google Checkout. Merchants may also create coupons from the Google Checkout Merchant Center. Merchants can specify $-off discounts and %-off discounts, and add restrictions such as "one per customer," "new customers only," and so on.
