Homeland Security Issues Research Solicitation

Small businesses and entrepreneurial researchers have the opportunity to compete for research funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS released on September 12th the Fiscal Year 2006.2 Program Solicitation for its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. The agency will begin accepting proposals on October 12. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 4 p.m. ET on November 13, 2006.

DHS invites small businesses with innovative ideas that are responsive to its research topics to submit Phase I proposals in response to this program solicitation. Phase I proposals are limited to 25 pages. Typically, awards are limited to $100,000 in Phase I and six months (SBIR) or 12 months (STTR) for project completion. Awards for the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office topic may go up to $150,000.

This solicitation contains the following topics:
• System for Designing and Evaluating Chemical or Biological Agent Sensor Networks,
• Mobile Peripheral Device for Biological Analysis,
• Advanced Unattended Ground Sensor Technologies,
• Next Generation Credentialing System Technologies,
• 3-D Visualization System to Show First Responders and Assets within Building Structures in Urban Areas for Situational Awareness,
• Automated Scenario/Script Builder for Simulation-Based Training Systems,
• High Quantum Efficiency Fast Detectors for the Readout of Scintillators for Gamma Ray Detection (DNDO).
