SBIR Technology Niche Assessment Program
by Douglas Mathew, Graduate Assistant, UALR SBDC

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites Phase 1 SBIR (No STTR) award winners of FY 2005 and FY 2006 to submit applications for its SBIR Niche Assessment Program. The NIH intends to accept applications from 150 NIH SBIR Phase 1 awardees on a "first come, first served" basis.

NIH has contracted with Foresight Science and Technology to conduct Technology Niche Analyses (TNA). The TNA report will evaluate possible uses of the technology being developed. These reports may help SBIR Phase 1 awardees as they prepare the commercialization plan section of their SBIR Phase II proposals. Applications can be submitted in one of three date-related TNA groups and each group has 50 slots. It is highly recommended that applicants select a group with a TNA completion date prior to the date awardees will submit their Phase II applications.

Interested companies can find the details about this opportunity at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-001.html.
