Small Businesses Invited to Submit Proposals

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released its FY 2005 SBIR Program Solicitation on November 5. Proposals in paper form must be received no later than January 28, 2005.
NIST estimates it will make 28 Phase I awards of up to $75,000 each. Awards are expected to be made in mid-July 2005 to fund projects of up to 6 months. Topic areas for entrepreneurs with research capabilities are:
-- Advanced Biological and Chemical Sensing Technologies (1 subtopic),
-- Analytical Methods (3 subtopics),
-- Healthcare and Medical Physics (1 subtopic),
-- Homeland Security (2 subtopics),
-- Information Technology (5 subtopics),
-- Intelligent Control (1 subtopic),
-- Manufacturing System Integration (5 subtopics),
-- Microelectronics Manufacturing (5 subtopics),
-- Microfabrication and Micromachining (4 subtopics),
-- Microwave Technology (1 subtopic),
-- Nanofabrication (2 subtopics),
-- Optics and Optical Technology (1 subtopic),
-- Technologies to Enhance Fire Safety (3 subtopics),
-- X-ray System Technologies (2 subtopics).
