by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its FY 2005 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program solicitation on October 20. Entrepreneurs with research capabilities that match NOAA's topic interests must submit Phase I proposals by January 19, 2005.

NOAA expects to make about 20 six-month contracts that will begin in July 2005. NOAA's Phase I awards range from $50,000 to $75,000, depending on the subtopic area. The agency's research topics fall within 4 primary subject areas:
-- Ecosystems (16 subtopics),
-- Climate (6 subtopics),
-- Weather and Water (17 subtopics),
-- Commerce and Transportation (5 subtopics).
