by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager

The Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology released its 2004 Program Solicitation for the Small Business Innovation Research program on November 3. Proposals in paper form must be received at its designated office location by the agency's closing date of 3:00 p.m. EST on January 30, 2004.

NIST expects to make about 32 Phase I contract awards of up to $75,000. Approximately one-third of current Phase I awardees are expected to receive Phase II awards to further their research projects. The program solicitation describes 15 research topics of interest to NIST. NIST's topic categories range from advanced biological and chemical sensing technologies to x-ray system technologies.
