Scott's Bike Shop
Scott Chapman, Owner
Fort Smith, Arkansas

As a competitive bicycle racing enthusiast with a strong commitment to quality and service, Scott Chapman knew he had the experience, desire and commitment to operate the best bicycle sales and repair shop in western Arkansas. He had been racing, building and repairing bikes since he was a teenager and working in or managing bicycle shops for most of his adult life.

Since he had been involved in all phases of the industry for so many years, his cycling friends knew he possessed the expertise to provide equipment and A-1 service in building and repairing their bikes. Chapman's friends encouraged him to open his own store, citing the need to have someone they knew and trusted handling all their cycling needs.

Scott knew he had the knowledge and the customer base to make his business a success. What he lacked was adequate funds to open a store. He talked to Bart Kincannon at Benefit Bank about a new business loan. The bank had confidence in him too, and referred him to Vonelle Vanzant, UAFS SBDC Center Director, for assistance with an SBA loan application. The loan was funded and approved, and Scott's Bike Shop began filling a need in the cycling community in Fort Smith.

The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration through a partnership with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock College of Business and other institutions of higher education.
