School Squared
Wendi Scoggins, Owner
Bentonville, Arkansas

Wendi Scoggins opened School Squared in June of 2007, just in time to help school teachers prepare for the start of another year. This school supply store is located on the square in downtown Bentonville, a vibrant community in Northwest Arkansas.

Wendi first dreamed of her business idea around the fall of 2006, and was referred to the University of Arkansas Small Business Development Center by First Western Bank. After attending several training programs including "Starting a Business in Arkansas" and "How to Write a Business Plan," Wendi felt better prepared and more confident to start her small business. Shortly after, Wendi began working with Larry Brian, Center Director, to complete her business plan and SBA loan proposal. She received $107,000, with a SBA loan guaranty, to start her business.

In addition to Wendi working in her store, she has one full-time and one part-time employee. She is focusing her marketing efforts on teachers in the local school districts and has lots of success with repeat customers. "I would not have been able to achieve my dream of business ownership without the quality assistance I received from the ASBDC," said Scoggins. "I will continue to rely on the support of Larry and our local ASBDC as my business continues to expand and grow."
