Munchkin Land
Shirley Lindsey, Owner
Jonesboro, Arkansas

After trying unsuccessfully to purchase an existing child care center, Shirley Lindsey didn't give up on fulfilling her dream of owning her own business.

Undeterred by the setback, Lindsey continued her quest until she found a suitable bank-owned property that was a former day care. She knew that it would be a perfect location for her to start her own child care center. In May, she began working closely with Laura Miller, business consultant at the ASU ASBTDC, to assess the feasibility of her project. Miller helped Lindsey develop financial projections and prepare a loan proposal to secure financing.

After securing a SBA-guaranteed 7(a) loan for $149,000 from Arkansas Capital Corporation, Lindsey worked diligently to remodel the building and prepare for the influx of children. In November, she opened the doors of Munchkin Land LLC with three employees.

Lindsey's determination and perseverance helped her realize her dream and make a difference in the care of children at her center.
