Monticello Speedway
Monticello, Arkansas

Two generations of the Chapman family - Steve and Nancy, Joe and Michelle - approached Bill Wisener, president of Simmons First Bank in Monticello, with their idea to start a dirt auto racing track in Drew County.

Wisener contacted Kathryn Peacock, UAM SBDC Center Director, to provide research on feasibility and pricing for this type enterprise in Arkansas. After reviewing the study, he referred the Chapmans to the UAM SBDC for guidance with a business plan and financial projections.

Financing through an SBA guaranteed loan for the project was shared with Arkansas Capital Corporation after their request for Peacock to assist with promotional packages to market race sponsorships was fulfilled.

The track opened in October 2005 with the slogan, "GIT-R-DIRTY!" Monticello Speedway, LLC is southeast Arkansas' only 1/4 mile oval dirt track featuring five divisions - Hobby Stock, Street Stock, Limited Modified, Late Model, and Modified. The region is drawing tourist dollars due to the enthusiastic response of entrants and spectators coming to enjoy a new outlet for Saturday night entertainment.
